Twenty councils are in line to secure a share of a £60m government fund designed to tackle the blight of empty homes and relieve housing pressures.

There are currently about 720,000 homes across England which are deemed to have be lying empty over the long term, the lowest level since 2004, according to official figures from the DCLG.
