Getting to grips with the care conundrum

Heather Jameson says that at the Local Government Association's annual conference Baroness Casey was heavy on the diagnosis of the problems facing adult social care and light on the cure – for now. 'But in short, social care is soaring, those on the receiving end are suffering.'

The Local Government Association's annual conference always sits in an awkward space between the post-local election political shuffle and the Parliamentary recess. This year has shuffled more than most following the tumultuous May polls and we sit on the cusp of a change of Prime Minister. 

Between the outgoing Starmer government and an incoming almost certainly Burnham regime – with a backdrop of Reform UK's Nigel Farage's resignation – conference was, by necessity, always going to be policy light.
