What exactly do Gloucestershire CC and the Rolling Stones have in common? More than you would think it seems. One of your fearless reporters has been digging deep into the history books for an upcoming feature in the next issue of Classic Rock Presents The Blues, a highly informative magazine that usually has little cross-over with The MJ. In a recent interview with Oxford music promoter and close friend of the late Brian Jones, Philip Guy Davis, a local government connection emerged. It turns out he is son of former Gloucestershire CC clerk, Guy H. Davis, who held the post from 1943 to 1967. ‘He ruled Gloucestershire for 24 years,' said Mr Davis. ‘He was in charge of everything that happened - from appointing chief constables to roads and industry. ‘He was the man, if you like.' Mr Davis Jnr was there when Alexis Korner introduced Jones to Howlin' Wolf, among many other things. You can read all about it in the next issue of Classic Rock Presents The Blues, out next month.
