An internal audit has revealed Glasgow City Council has misplaced 750 data-holding electronic devices over the last five years.

Glasgow City Council has misplaced 750 data-holding electronic devices over the last five years, most of which were unencrypted, an internal audit has revealed.

Sparked by the loss in May of two Glasgow laptops, one of which contained details of 16,451 bank accounts, the report disclosed that 256 unencrypted laptops and 351 unsecured desktop PCs remain unaccounted for. Eight other instances of burglary and subsequent data loss at the city council came to light following the investigation.
