Education secretary, Michael Gove, has insisted that his 24 new free schools and academies will reduce the educational gap between schools in rich and poor areas.

Maintaining that the core aim of his school reforms was to eliminate under-achievement in deprived areas, he described the gaps as ‘not fair or just'.
