Government letting down families on social care, says Dilnot

Governments of all colours have underfunded means-tested social care provision by local government for 20 years, says economist Andrew Dilnot. Lee Peart reports.

Health secretary Wes Streeting's 10-Year Health Plan may outline a vision for the future of the National Health Service (NHS) but it is likely to be hampered by a lack of a plan for social care. 

With Baroness Louise Casey's independent care commission not due to report until 2028, it is a glaring omission that will continue to hamper the recovery of the NHS, but successive governments have all kicked the can down the road on care.
