MPs and council leaders have warned more resources are needed if the Government is to meet its target to half levels of child poverty by 2010. The House of Commons Work and Pensions Committee said the number of children in poverty has fallen by 600,000 to 2.8m – well short of the 1.7m target. The London Child Poverty Commission has also published its final report calling for urgent action. London Councils' chairman Cllr Merrick Cockell said: ‘Eradicating child poverty is one of the biggest challenges facing the capital.
