A Government amendment was yesterday introduced to the Hillsborough law to strengthen local authority investigations.

The amendment to the Public Office (Accountability) Bill would extend the duty of candour and transparency to council inquiries where there has been a ‘significant risk of causing death or serious physical or psychological harm or substantial economic loss to one or more persons as a result of conduct involving dishonesty, impropriety or a serious breach of ethical or professional standards'.
