Government plans for rent convergence fall short of sector demands

The Government has failed to meet sector demands on rent convergence, despite the financial pressures on housing costs facing councils.

The Government has failed to meet sector demands on rent convergence, despite the financial pressures on housing costs facing councils.

In a ministerial statement, housing minister Matthew Pennycook said councils would be able to increase weekly rents for social housing that are below the nationally set formula by up to £1 above the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate of inflation plus 1% from April 2027.
