Housing minister, Grant Shapps, unveiled a government cash injection of £35.5m last week, to tackle ‘ghost streets' across the Midlands and north of England.

The capital grants will be match-funded by local authorities, creating £71m for councils to regenerate areas as they see fit, However, the funding is specifically targeted at streets and blocks more than half empty.
