The Isle of Wight is set to become the world's first ‘eco-island', powered entirely by green energy, if council plans go ahead. Under the proposals, the island would become self-sufficient in low carbon power, and could even become a net exporter of energy. Measures being considered include tidal power and a combined heat and power plant run on ‘gasified' waste.
