A multi-million pound fund for cleaner, greener public sector van fleets has been outlined by transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick. The programme, which will be worth an initial £20m, will see lower carbon emitting vehicles used in the public sector fleets and the public sector's buying power utilised to ‘kick start' the market for lower carbon vans. Last week Richmond upon Thames LBC completed a successful trial of running its entire fleet on recycled cooking oil. As a result it wrote to the Chancellor asking for a reduction in the duty he currently takes on this form of bio-diesel. The request was turned down.
