Lots of clever people gathered at Sopwell House to discuss the future of local public services & being the Guardian it is ever so slightly pinkish in its makeup & debate.I think I am here to provide a wee bit of political balance.Keynote speaker this morning was the (relatively) new CEX at the Local Government Association, Carolyn Downs - a sensible, down to earth, northern lass.Also feels like a reunion of former Beds CC people - Nick Bell now CEX at Staffordshire, Martin Reeves now CEX at Coventry, Jonathan Flowers now a senior bod at Capita & John Tizard the former Labour Group Leader are all here.Lots of clever people attending & talking about clever things, will be interesting to see if there any practical outcomes that actually make a difference.
