A High Court ruling over a Guildford pub licensing application is set to aid all councils opposed to extensions in bar-saturated areas. Guildford BC's licensing sub-committee refused a request for a licence in a designated ‘cumulative-impact area', and last week, the High Court upheld the decision, which was challenged by pub chain, JD Wetherspoon. Licensing committee chairman Cllr ~David Wright~ said: ‘This will support the efforts of other local authorities wishing to maintain law and order in their city centres.'
