Hampshire CC has reduced costs by £43m so far this year, and is on track to secure 8% savings needed to plug its budget gap for 2011/12, independent auditors have announced.

In the annual audit letter, the district auditor backed the authority for its strategic use of reserves to ease pressure on services and success in delivering continued improvement in priority service areas, despite financial constraints.
