Haringey LBC has vowed to fight a new claim from disgraced former children's services director Sharon Shoesmith for sexual discrimination. The 55-year-old, fired from Haringey after the death of Baby P, has lodged a claim for unfair dismissal and sexual discrimination with Watford Employment Tribunal. Ms Shoesmith, who recently lost an internal appeal against her dismissal last December from the North London borough, says the disciplinary procedure against her was unfair. And because she was replaced by Peter Lewis as head of children's services and by a man as the chairman of the local safeguarding board, she is also claiming sexual discrimination for which she could win up to £1m in compensation if successful. A Haringey spokesman said: ‘We will be contesting her claim.' Ms Shoesmith is also challenging her dismissal in the High Court claiming she was made a ‘scapegoat'.
