I think the proposed strike action by the Association of Teachers & Lecturers is a mistake - to take strike action while negotiations are ongoing over future pension arrangements is quite perverse.We have the head of the PCS Union, Mark Serwotka, announcing a ballot of members on strike action and it is perhaps a sign of growing industrial unrest in the public sector. Times have changed and staff in the public sector have to recognise that the historic perks and benefits, that might have been appropriate when pay was below that of the private sector, can no longer be justified.The proposed action by the teaching unions will cause a significant loss of support for teachers & I know parents will be outraged if their children's education suffers as a result of this action, quite aside from the disruption caused when parents have to take time off work to look after children.As reported in the Daily Mirror -
