A date has been set for an internal hearing into the suspension of Liverpool City Council’s spin doctor, Matt Finnegan. The authority’s assistant executive director for media was suspended on full pay in April 2005, over alleged ‘procurement irregularities’ relating to an advertising contract for a council magazine. There was further controversy when e-mails between him and the-then council leader, Mike Storey, concerning the chief executive’s employment, were found on his computer and led to Cllr Storey’s resignation. Chief executive, Sir David Henshaw, stepped down this year. Mr Finnegan faces a disciplinary hearing on 6-7 September.
