200 years ago Liverpool was major beneficiary of the triangular trade which one one of its legs took slaves from West Africa to the Americas. We have gone a long way since that time and indeed Liverpool became one of the leading cities in the UK in working to abolish slavery.
We have an excellent museum in Liverpool which portrays well the trade and the agonies that its human cargoes had to endure whilst on passage and when they arrived to a terrible life.
