Northumberland CC boss, Mark Henderson, has announced he is leaving the authority as it gears up for unitary status. The chief executive, who has been with the council for five years, will leave at the end of the month. The hunt for a chief executive to lead the new unitary authority started last week. ‘I am proud of my contribution to Northumberland, but feel it is time to move on and for a new chief executive to come in right at the start of the creation of a new council,' said Mr Henderson. ‘I am sad to see Mr Henderson leave, but I also feel that this is a good time for a new person to come into one of the top jobs in local government,' said council leader Peter Hillman. ‘I would thank him for his time at the county, and wish him well for the future.' Looking to the future, Mr Henderson said he planned to go into consultancy. Under government rules, the chief executive posts in all the new unitary authorities will have to be advertised. The search for the new chief executives to lead the Durham unitary also started last week. Durham CC chief executive, Mark Lloyd, left last month to take up the top officer's job at Cambridgeshire CC. The results of today's (Thursday) unitary elections in Northumberland will be announced in real-time on the authority's new website – www.northumberlandcouncil.gov.uk. The website will feature a live video cast of the election results tomorrow (Friday) and the results will be posted online as they happen. The site will also have a series of videos.
