Highland Council's chief executive, Arthur McCourt, will get a £162,000 pay out on retirement this summer, as fellow authority workers face an uncertain future. Mr McCourt is due to retire from his post in July when he turns 60, and he will also receive an annual pension of about £54,000. The council is currently undergoing a major staff review, with the loss of almost 40 jobs. A new chief executive is expected to be appointed this week.
