Hillingdon LBC has been appointed as the single authority responsible for imported food controls at London's Heathrow Airport. The responsibility was previously shared between the London borough and four other councils – Hounslow LBC, Slough BC, Spelthorne BC and Surrey CC – but Hillingdon will now be responsible for carrying out all checks. Sarah Appleby, from the Food Standards Agency, said: ‘The change will make it easier for traders to import, as they will only have to deal with one local authority, whichever part of the airport they use.'
