Hillingdon LBC council leader, Ray Puddifoot, has claimed pay hikes to senior council figures will encourage more people to get involved in local politics. He denied claims from opposition councillors that his pay increase, from £51,191 to £60,353, meant a loss of funding to community groups, stating instead the money had been shifted from some groups to others to cope with PCT funding issues and asylum-seeker costs.
