The second round of bidding for the remaining £1.15bn of grant from the regional growth fund (RGF) is set to open on 12 April, amid hints that failed bidders from round one could be eligible for another chance.
RGF advisory committee chairman, Lord Heseltine, told a conference this week that the results of the first round of bids for £250m entered late last autumn would be confirmed ‘any time now.' He said that while it was ‘not easy to generalise' on which bids were successful, some failed simply because of lack of time, and ‘they could now be built into an exciting venture' as bids for the second round.
