The Government has insisted it ‘remains committed' to ending the use of hotels for asylum accommodation after growing public anger.

A letter to council chief executives from border security and asylum minister Dame Angela Eagle admitted the use of hotels for asylum accommodation ‘continues to place unsustainable pressure on public services and the taxpayer'.
