Homelessness has reached acute levels in rural Scotland, according to Argyll and Bute Council. The council received 968 applications in 2006/07 for homeless status. And the number of households in temporary accommodation has increased by 25% from 160 in May 2005 to 212 currently. In a report to council members last week, head of community regeneration, Malcolm MacFadyen, said: ‘The number of households which the council will have a statutory duty to accommodate in temporary accommodation is likely to increase over the next five years as the move to eradicate priority need is implemented.'
