Housing targets could be reduced for new town areas

The Government has indicated councils’ housing targets could be reduced if planned new towns are placed in the area.

The Government has indicated councils' housing targets could be reduced if planned new towns are placed in the area.

Appearing before the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee today, planning minister Matthew Pennycook said the Government was ‘giving careful consideration' to how proposed towns and local housing targets ‘interact' given that Labour's ‘starting point was these are over and above the LHN [local housing need] number'.
