Expenditure on transport in London is three times higher than in the Midlands and the north of England, Treasury figures have revealed.

Analysis of Whitehall data by the Passenger Transport Executive Group (pteg) shows that transport spending in London stands at £774 per head – compared with an average figure of £285 across the West Midlands and the north of England.
