Hull's chief executive, Kim Ryley, has made the surprise announcement that he is to take up the reins at new unitary Shropshire CC. An official announcement confirming his decision to leave the Guildhall, after almost five years at Hull City Council, is expected to be made this week. He will take over from interim chief executive, Sheila Healy, and starts in September. Neither council will confirm the appointment has been made until it has been made official. A spokesman from Shropshire CC said: ‘On 29 July, Shropshire council will be asked to approve a recommendation from the member panel, convened to appoint its new chief. Following the council meeting, an announcement will be made naming the new chief executive.' The new-look Shropshire CC was created in April this year, when the former county council covering Shropshire merged with five district councils. During Mr Ryley's time in Hull, the council went from being the worst-performing local authority in England to being judged a three-star authority. It is expected that deputy chief executive, Nicola Yates, will step in, until a permanent replacement is found.
