Independent Adviser

To the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham's Public Accounts and Audit Select Committee.

The role:

* An opportunity to support this committee in scrutinising the Council's activities in relation to governance and regulation, internal and external audit, assurance and risk management, fraud and corruption prevention, performance and compliance, financial management and value for money, and transparency and open government.
* You'll offer independent advice and support on all areas of the committee's remit, assisting the six elected councillors to hold officers to account and undertake their joint scrutiny and audit roles in an effective manner.
* You'll be available for 8 to 10 meetings annually within the borough, along with telephone and email support as required.
* Allowance of £300 per meeting, along with reasonable travel expenses.

Person specification:

* Experience of financial (and awareness of) audit issues, underpinned by a strong interest in the nature of public service. A strong professional background, at a senior level, related to the remit is desired.
* Cannot work for the Council or any of its service delivery partners (e.g. Elevate East London).
