Operating a ‘business as usual' approach is the worst-possible reaction to last week's CSR, says former local government minister, Nick Raynsford. Writing in local government weekly The MJ, he says the challenge for local authorities with the tight budget round is to ‘maintain the momentum for improvement', and urges them to be come up with new ideas, as ‘the scope for innovation and performance is enormous'. He adds: ‘Exploring such options should be a continuing expectation.'
