Taunton Deane BC this week refused to be drawn into national media speculation into the cause of last Friday's M5 motorway crash, while a police investigation into the tragic incident led to inquiries into a firework display held at a local rugby club.

In response to inquiries made following the crash – which happened during poor weather conditions around the motorway – a Taunton Deane BC representative confirmed fireworks displays were not licensable activities under the Licensing Act, which covers live music and the sale of alcohol. The authority also stated that organisers of firework displays were subject to guidance issued by the Health and Safety Executive.
