Nine out of 10 insurance companies think cover will become unaffordable, unless the Government spends more on flood defences. The survey of 200 insurance companies by the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) revealed that 91% of firms believed cover in flood risk areas would become unaffordable unless the Government spent more to protect homes and business at risk. The research echoed calls made by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) last month that the Government ‘failed to play its part' in helping victims of this summer's floods. ‘Millions of homeowners and businesses around the country have been let down by the Government's failure to commit sufficient money to new and improved flood defences,' said ABI director general, Stephen Haddrill. Floods minister, John Healey, met with European Commissioner, Danuta Huebner, last week to discuss the Government's application to the EU Solidarity Fund to help meet the costs of the flooding.
