Investing in homes that work for councils and residents

Delivering homes that are financially sustainable and socially valuable is a priority that’s becoming increasingly challenging. Housing investment discussions and actions need to start evolving now, writes Josie Parsons.

The Government's new Homelessness Strategy reinforces an urgent need for housing investment. Its commitment to ending the use of unsuitable B&Bs for families, improving coordination between public bodies and strengthening prevention duties sets a clearer national direction, but it also highlights the scale of the challenge facing councils.

Continued cutbacks, resulting in local authorities striving to deliver more with even less, and the Autumn Budget has resulted in councils facing mounting financial pressures.
