IoW seeks 'assisted status' to secure economic aid

Isle of Wight Council has called for a meeting with business minister Michael Fallon in a bid to get assisted area status.

Isle of Wight Council has called for a meeting with business minister Michael Fallon in a bid to get assisted area status to qualify for economic aid.

The local authority called for the meeting through the island's MP, Andrew Turner, and according to the council, if it gets assisted area status it will be looked on more favourably for economic aid under EU rules on structural funding.
