Women's unemployment – at a 23-year high – could soar further as the public sector job cuts bite, the TUC has warned.
TUC analysis of official statistics shows the proportion of women employed across the public sector has risen at three times the rate of men over the last decade. For women, the public sector has been responsible for 84% of net jobs growth over the period. TUC general secretary, Brendan Barber, said: ‘We risk moving backwards and reducing, rather than improving, women's opportunities.'
