Barking and Dagenham LBC is jointly the first council in England to be allowed to manage properties built using public funding allocated through the Housing Corporation. The council has been awarded accreditation under the Housing Corporation's housing management scheme which, until now, has been aimed primarily at developers and other private sector organisations. It gained the accreditation jointly with South Holland DC in Lincolnshire.
