More kids in care

A record number of children are living in foster care or children's homes, statistics have revealed. According to figures released by the Department for Education on 25 September, 67,050 children in 2012 were looked after – a 2% rise on figures for 2011. The latest figure represents a 13% increase in children in care since 2008, and numbers are now higher than at any point since 1997. Three-quarters of children, some 50,260, were cared for in foster placements.
