The most concise definition of Blairites and Brownites was explained to me several years ago, when the Labour Government was still in power.
Blairites, the theory goes, will create sudden, knee-jerk policies in a bid to be seen to be doing something. Brownites, on the other hand, do nothing – except perhaps dither – until the problem goes away. It's a bit of a cynical way to view history, but as sweeping generalisations go, it does the job.
