On polling day I was out knocking on doors in two very different places, Basildon and Bermondsey. In Basildon, Labour were hammered by Reform. In Bermondsey the ward I was in returned one Labour councillors and two Greens despite being a target.
What is happening to Labour, and what should we do about it? That's the question the whole party is grappling with at the time of writing. It's a hard one to definitively answer. Losses in Bermondsey and Basildon sit alongside losses is Birmingham and Barnsley. Councils and wards of different profiles, with different issues, don't seem to think Labour is the answer to what ails them.
