The Labour Party has denied rumours it has scrapped its local government unit in order to save the organisation money. The cash-strapped party has already cancelled its local government conference, but The MJ understands that the current members of the unit are both leaving, and its future is in doubt. Former government adviser, Robert Hill said it would be ‘a very sad state of affairs' if the unit was abolished. A Labour Party spokesman said he could not comment on internal organisation or staffing matters, but said the unit had not been abolished.
