Britain's biggest public sector trade union has warned Labour's leadership ‘it is no time to sit on the fence' in advance of potential strikes by millions of town hall staff.

Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison, told the Labour conference that his members, which include 700,000 local authority-linked staff, would ‘never forgive' Labour if ‘we let them down – and neither would their union'.
