Inventing false attacks on Tories is a pointless diversion, when the reality of their ‘do nothing credo' is so much worse, LGA Labour leader, Sir Jeremy Beecham, told a London conference. The conference, held by the LGA Labour group in the absence of a Labour Party spring conference, was called to mobilise support among councillors for the party's campaign in the 4 June local and European elections. ‘Keeping council rents down, supporting local businesses, creating jobs and apprenticeships and helping people struggling with their mortgages – that is why we need to keep Labour in power,' said Sir Jeremy.
