Lancashire CC has warned it could be facing a funding shortfall of £56m by 2012. Councillors were warned last week that the local authority faced a shortfall of around £15m in 2008/9, £16m for 2009/10, and £25m for 2010/11. The estimates are based on the assumption that the grant the council receives from the Government will not rise sharply. Cllr Anne Brown said she hoped the council would be able to deliver a balanced budget, ‘while protecting the services which people need and value'.
