Lancashire Police Authority has become the latest to set an inflation-busting precept increase, with a rise of 7.95%. The authority announced its share of the council tax bill would go up by 19p a week for average Band D properties, which would help pay for an extra 50 officers. ‘Our consultation showed people were willing to pay more, particularly to help tackle serious crime,' said authority chairman, Cllr Malcolm Doherty. Essex Police Authority has also agreed its budget for 2008/9 and an increase of 4.95%, which means a rise of 11p a week.
