A landmark judgement for Sandwell's children and families

Sandwell’s ‘Good’ rating by Ofsted is the result of sustained leadership, stronger partnerships and effective governance between the children’s trust and the council, say Sally Giles and Emma Taylor.

For the first time in our history, Sandwell's Children's Social Care services have been judged as GOOD by Ofsted. This is more than a rating—it is a powerful endorsement of the vision we set out, the leadership that has guided us, and the unwavering commitment of our workforce. 

For over a decade, services were rated inadequate, leading to statutory directions from the Department for Education to set up Sandwell Children's Trust. In 2022, Sandwell Council then entered government intervention, so this achievement marks a truly historic milestone in our improvement journey.
