A new district councils' network launched last week is negotiating to get control of almost £3m left by the defunct Association of District Councils. The District Councils' Network was formally launched at its first assembly meeting in London on 13 November. Its chairman, Cllr Gary Porter, leader of South Holland DC, said: ‘District councils have a real opportunity to speak with one powerful voice, and significantly influence the next Government. ‘The ADC funds will provide the network with real resources to push forward its programme.' The £2.8m is the residue from the sale last year of the former ADC offices in Pimlico, London. Under its constitution, the money has to be used by organisations with similar objectives, and the network is currently negotiating with the liquidators. If the network receives the funds, it will reduce its member subscription fees from £950 to a £150 fee.
