The new leader of the County Councils' Network sets out his vision

As the County Councils’ Network gears up for its annual conference this month, new chair Matthew Hicks sets out his priorities and rebuts any suggestion of a rift with Reform UK. Ann McGauran reports.

It has been an action-packed year so far for counties as their ride on the latest reorganisation round rollercoaster begins. But the new chair of the County Councils' Network (CCN) exudes calm at a time when others might be less sanguine about what the future holds.

In something of an understatement, Matthew Hicks, who took over as chair from Tim Oliver in September, tells The MJ ahead of the CCN Conference on 16-18 November in Marlow that ‘there's clearly a lot going on in local government'.
