Welsh council leaders have slammed the 2.8% Welsh Assembly Government's budget increase for local government, calling it a ‘body blow for rural Wales'. Speaking at the Welsh Local Government Association's annual conference in Llandudno, the WLGA leader, Cllr John Davies, accused the Welsh Assembly of making the ‘wrong choices for the people of Wales', and said the cabinet treated local government as the ‘Cinderella' of public services. Cllr Rodney Berman, WLGA finance spokesman, said: ‘It is clearly not held to be true in the NHS, so why is it argued for local government?'
