Council leaders are calling for more powers to clamp down on metal thieves causing ‘chaos and heartbreak' by stealing from UK infrastructure and desecrating war memorials.
The majority of the stolen metal ends up at scrap yards, and the Local Government Association (LGA) is calling for councils to be given new powers over licensing of scrap dealers.
